  The other vampire leaders are adamantly refusing to help us on our mission. Benjamin and I are considered outlaws for killing fellow vampires. Thomas was on the black list too for associating with us. The only reason we have not been killed yet is because Benjamin is the oldest vampire alive, and that title commands a certain amount of reverence.

  But they can always change their minds at any moment. I only hope that no other vampires become allied with the demons.

  “You made me strong,” I tell him, stretching up even further on my toes for a kiss.

  “What do you mean?” he asks.

  “You made me strong: physically and mentally. I feel like I can handle any situation that comes my way. Before I met you, I was never sure of myself. I’ve never felt more confident than I do today.”

  He laughs, wrapping his arms around me. “Being able to snap people’s necks with one hand will do that to you.”

  “I’m serious! You’ve turned me into something incredible.”

  “And you turned me into something human,” he said, his hand roaming across my body.

  “Don’t go and get too soft on me,” I joke.

  “I wouldn’t dream of it,” he says, his fangs descending.

  I jump up and he catches me. My legs wrap around his waist and I kiss him hard, fully on the lips. I purposely let his fang pierce my lip so that the tiniest drop of blood swirls into his mouth.

  He pulls away. “You have a beautiful taste,” he says, kissing me again, and again, and again.
